Trucks forced to left-hand lane to cut congestionThe Queensland Government says trucks could be limited to the left-hand lanes of many of the state’s highways if a trial on Brisbane’s southside reduces traffic congestion.

Truck drivers face $40 fines if they do not keep left on an eight-kilometre stretch of road linking the Ipswich Motorway at Rocklea with the Gateway Motorway at Wishart.

Main Roads Minister Craig Wallace says the six-month trial could be expanded to other areas.

“We’ll have a look at the trial see how it’s gone,” he said.

“If it’s successful then we’ll certainly after consultation with the local community make some decisions from there.”

The trial starts today, but fine’s will not apply for another month.
