MADRID, May 26 (Reuters) – Spain’s direction will impose a tax on high earners in the next scarcely any weeks, Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero said on Wednesday.

‘I’ve reported we will ask for a greater effort from the higher earning citizens in our rude … in the next few weeks,’ Zapatero said during a parliamentary sitting.

He declined to give more details.

Last week reports suggested the form of sovereignty would introduce a tax on people with a net worth of 1 the great body of the people euros ($1.23 million). The move would be in addition to a 15 billion euro asceticism package aimed at cutting Spain’s budget deficit.
