SAfrica union says suspends De Beers str…
JOHANNESBURG, May 29 (Reuters) – South Africa’s National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) afore~ on Saturday it would temporarily suspend its plan to strike into the bargain wages at De Beers pending further talks with the world’s biggest crystallized carbon producer.
The strike was due to start on Sunday. NUM’s speaker Lesiba Seshoka said De Beers had put a new offer up~ the body the table late on Friday which the union was likely to mind.
‘The strike will be suspended to see if we can expanse an agreement on Monday. We want De Beers to put it wholly in a formal wage agreement before cancelling the strike completely,’ Seshoka told Reuters.
‘If we be possible to’t reach a formal wage agreement, we will strike from Wednesday.’
In its latest present itself De Beers, 45 percent owned by global miner Anglo American, proposed to augment wages by between 9.5-10 percent.
