Bank of America Extends Rally on Upgrade

“It is 27 new products, all on 32-nanometer, which allows us to put a huge amount of transistors on the package,” says Mooly Eden, Intel’s general manager. These, he added, are ideal for the embedded solutions used in the retail sector and ATMs.

By using 32-nanometer manufacturing, the new Intel Core i7, i5 and i3 chips can increase a computer’s speed while decreasing energy consumption, says Eden. With a strong global business, Intel has recently been cited as an attractive technology stock, and the leap into 32-nanometer will ramp up pressure on rival AMD(AMD Quote). AMD is expected to implement the technology sometime next year.

The i7 and i3 chips also feature Intel’s new Turbo Boost technology, which adjusts workloads on the chip to boost performance, according to Eden.

“We can run applications that took a long time in the past and run them much, much faster,” he says, listing programs like email, PowerPoint, Picasa and video. “It’s kind of like performance-on-demand — when you want something, the system feels it and gives it to you immediately.”

Intel faces stiff competition in the graphics market, where it is up against the likes of Texas Instruments(TXN Quote).

In a clear attempt to bolster its graphics story, Intel has integrated graphics capabilities into its latest processors, which will deliver strong visuals and high-definition video playback.
